The Adobe Camera Raw plug-in became the latest must-have tool for professional photographers when it was released in February 2003. This powerful plug-in has been frequently updated to support more cameras and include more features and is available as part of Adobe Photoshop CS6. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom software is built upon the same powerful raw processing technology that is available in the Camera Raw plug-in.

Adobe customers can can get the apps through the update mechanism in Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6, or through the download links at the bottom of this page. Adobe says these updates fix "issues reported in earlier versions of Lightroom 5 and Camera Raw 8," without being specific about what those issues were.

Lightroom 5.6 is a free update for Lightroom 5 customers. Camera Raw 8.6 is a free update for both Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6. Camera Raw 8.6 for CS6 only includes updated camera and lens profile support as part of Adobe's recent camera Raw policy change.

Updates to Camera Raw 8 for Photoshop CS6 only include new camera support, lens profile support, and bug fixes. The new features listed in the release notes are only available in Photoshop CC. DNG Converter 8.6 is provided for customers using versions of Photoshop older than Photoshop CS6.

Yes. The Camera Raw 8.6 and DNG Converter 8.6 public Release Candidates were just posted to Adobe Labs (labs.adobe.com). They support raw files for the Nikon D810. If you are using Lightroom, for now, you can use ACR 8.6 / DNG Converter 8.6 to convert the D810 raw files to DNG, which can then be read in Lightroom 5.5.

Have you tested the Nikon 810 NEF files with CS6/Bridge (fully updated) on a Mac OS10.7? My CS6 will not open any of the RAW files from this camera (just came in a few days ago) -- but is ok with other Nikon RAW images from older cameras. The jpegs are fine. Thanks for your help!

ACR 8.6RC (beta) is already out and it has support for that camera. There is a dedicated version of ACR 8.6 specific to CS6 which has the addes camera model support only, but without the new features available in CC and CC 2014..

Either you have not installed the beta ACR 8.6, or have shot Small Raw format that is not yet supported, or you've used obsolete Nikon software on the newer camera NEFs that corrupts them. Station_two has given the link to get the beta software. Here is the link to a utility that can reverse the corruption from obsolete software:

I don't think you'll accomplish anything by postponing the purchase of the camera. The Nikon NEF format for the D810 isn't going to change. You will just have to wait until Adobe gets the support right, which you can be assured they will. In the meantime, you can use the Nikon software or shoot JPEG and get accustomed to the camera. That's what I would do, anyway.

What a luck, actually I new that the camera is too cool to be supported right away, but now slowly apple and adobe both updating for the D810. I guess this point should have been updated in the review - nikon d810 vs d800 - though which I've decided to get it.

Camera Raw 9.8 is now available through the update mechanism in Photoshop CC and the Creative Cloud application. The goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Camera Raw.

I want to be able to see my AWR files in my windows 7 library. It will not preview them for me in RAW. I also cannot open them in Photoshop even tho I have tried to update both the DNG and Camera Raw downloads. Any thoughts? Not sure if my computer simply cannot handle the updates.

As well as these newly-supported cameras, the Camera Raw update brings camera-matching color profiles for the Sony A7S, RX100 III, and A77 II. Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 also includes profiles for 21 new lenses on seven different mounts, three more than were included in the release candidate. The full selection of newly-supported lens models in Camera Raw 8.6 and Lightroom 5.6 follows below:

A couple of bugs in the release candidate itself have also been squashed. The Adobe Standard color profile should now work correctly for the Nikon D810, while Nikon D810 and D4S sraw files should now correctly convert to DNG format. Lightroom 5.6, meanwhile, includes no new features beyond the added camera support, but as with the previous release, fixes a raft of bugs. These are as follows:

Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw should be updated through the Creative Cloud application, or through Help :: Updates in Photoshop for CS6 users. Direct download links for offline installations are not yet available.
